This Autumn we have been lucky enough to have not one, not two, but three very talented Dance Companies use our studios for residences and rehearsals for their upcoming performances. Included in this Blog Post are the details for their shows and tour dates and some exclusive images from their rehearsals!

Joss Arnott Dance

Joss Arnott Dance are an internationally touring, classical contemporary dance company based in Huddersfield, and founded by Joss Arnott himself. With his brilliant female cast and other collaborators including musicians, composers and designers, Joss has been rehearsing here at The Dance Studio Leeds regularly over the past month rehearsing for their upcoming performances!

Their latest performance is a Triple Bill consisting of two brand new dance works ‘Movement in 3’ and ‘RUSH’, alongside their internationally award winning V, which for the first time will feature live music.

Unfortunately for us their performance at Northern Ballet on the 29th has already sold out, which we wish them the best of luck for in their sell out show! However you can catch them next year at CAST in Doncaster on Wednesday the 31st of January! Click here for more information and tickets!

Slanjayvah Danza

Slanjayvah Danza was established in 2004 by Artistic Director and Choreographer Jenni Wren. Jenni is inspired by the arts, humanity, sciences, health and well-being, aiming to entertain, inform, inspire and support positive changes in society.

Over the past month Slanjayvah Danza have been in residence here at The Dance Studio Leeds, rehearsing for their show ‘6 Feet, 3 Shoes’ which they will be touring from the 20th-25th November.

“6 Feet, 3 Shoes’ is a celebration of friendship, cultural exchange and history through dance, music and storytelling. Telling the tale of three friends, how they meet at Northern School of Contemporary Dance, communicate without words and build a lasting friendship. Rooted in traditional (TRAD) arts, set in a contemporary context, the piece is full of feisty rhythmical dance, cultural references and humour.’ – Slanjayvah Danza

Sardoville

“Sardoville are a repertoire-esque theatre company, meaning that each performance is highly collaborative and offers a variety of performance segments often directed and designed by multiple artists. Sardoville deal in work that is entertaining and informative with the aim to surprise, change minds and evoke laughter.” (Sardoville)
They have recently been rehearsing for their full work ‘For Only An Hour’ which they will be performing at Seven Arts on the 15th of December. Excerpts of the work can also been seen within the Sacre Bleu Christmas Cabaret events, which will also be at Seven Arts on the 16th December and Studio19 Kings Lynn on the 17th December.

Can’t make any of these dates? Don’t worry Sardoville will be back performing this work in Leeds at Easter. Click here for more information and to keep up to date with all of their upcoming performances.

TheMiddletonCorpus

TheMiddletonCorpus are directed by West Yorkshire born and based artist, Anthony Middleton. For just over three weeks over the last month they have been resident in Studio 3 working on their new creation ‘Seedling.’ This creation will be the latest work to join their building repertoire of acrobatic dance, that will be building future touring for individual works, but also for their first full bill of work in 2018.

Following their residences they have presented part of this new work at the ‘Hull Dance Prize 2017’ during November, which was hosted at The Hull Truck Theatre. After a general public vote, they were then voted the winner of the ‘Audience Prize’ which was a wonderful achievement for them, as Anthony himself is particularly driven to create work that can excite, inspire and connect with audiences of all ages and previous exposure to contemporary dance.
‘Seedling’ will now begin its preparations for some touring throughout 2018, at various outdoor festivals across the UK and beyond. To keep up to speed about these dates, click here to visit their website!

Looking to hire a studio for a residency or rehearsals? Here’s what Anthony has to say about our studios.

Within the brick and steel exterior of the industrious buildings of Mabgate Mills, there hides a warm and cosy creative heart, its name… the Dance Studio Leeds. Run with enthusiasm and a generosity that is sometimes hard to find within the professional dance and creative industries, Katie and the DSL team have built a collection of wonderful studio spaces, that are not afraid of exposing you to the buildings industrial heritage, which for us really has acted as a source of inspiration throughout this recent project
