A course into the art of fan veils. Also known as silk fans, fan veils originate from Far East Asia and are used in Classical Chinese Dance as well as in many dance genres by dancers in the West. An extremely expressive and freeing dance prop, they are a joy to dance with. Hugely versatile, you may like to learn just for fun or to add to your dance. Places limited to 4 people per class.
Spare pairs of fan veils will be provided in the first class and how to buy explained; if you would like to buy yours ahead of time, please ensure they are made of silk fabric and bamboo staves, with a RIGHT hand and a LEFT hand fan. Bellydance Boutique UK has good delivery; Ebay sellers are usually fine but take longer to arrive.

Course Content:
  • How to hold and care for your fan veils

  • Basic technique and terminology of¬†moves, including spins

  • How to flow from one move to another

  • You will learn a short choreography by the end of the course

Additional Info Dates: Wednesday (7th - 28th October 2020) Age Group: 15 yrs + (Anyone aged under 18 yrs must come accompanied by an adult.) Level: Beginner-Improver. OPEN TO ALL What to bring: Your own pair of fan veils (spares will be provided in Week 1). Soft pumps/ ballet slippers/ comfortable footwear. Tutor Bio Meilyn is an award-winning bellydancer and choreographer, trained in Egyptian, Turkish and Fusion bellydance styles, including Chinese fan veils. Her friendly and supportive teaching style allows you to learn in a safe environment and grow as a dancer. Meilyn has been teaching for twelve years, including her regular classes, at international bellydance festivals and one-off tasters for hen parties, community groups, schools and ladies' parties.
