South Asian Dance

Naach Leeds is a space to celebrate the vibrant and diverse dance styles of South Asia while building confidence, technique, and performance skills. Each week, the class explores a different style, including classic Bollywood, commercial Bollywood, semi-classical, and choreography inspired by South Indian music and cinema. This variety allows dancers to experience the rich movement vocabulary, musicality, and storytelling that make South Asian dance so unique.

The sessions are ideal for dancers who already have some experience in any style. However, beginners are absolutely welcome. Across the two-hour session, the choreography is broken down step by step, focusing on timing, expressions, and movement technique so that everyone can follow along comfortably.

By the end of each class, you will have learned a complete routine while also gaining a deeper understanding of the style explored that week. The goal is for everyone to leave feeling challenged, accomplished, and connected to the joy and energy of South Asian dance.

This class will be held in studio 5. Please make your way straight to Mill 6 on arrival.

Studio 5 is located in Mill 6, first floor, left of reception and around through the toilet area.

Tutor Bio Preethy is a South Asian dancer with a foundation in the Indian classical dance form of Kuchipudi. Alongside her classical training, she developed a deep love for Bollywood dance. Although largely self-taught in this style, her dedication and passion for learning allowed her to grow her skills and develop a unique movement style that blends classical influence with modern Bollywood energy. After years of training independently, Preethy joined a dance company where she spent several years performing both locally and internationally. Through these performances she gained valuable stage experience, refined her choreography skills, and deepened her understanding of performance and teamwork within a dance ensemble. Preethy is passionate about teaching and loves sharing the joy that dance brings to her life. She aims to create a welcoming and supportive environment in her classes, where dancers can build confidence, develop their skills, and enjoy the strong sense of community that dance can create.
