OUR INSPIRATIONAL STUDENT OF THE MONTH FOR MARCH IS DARYL!

DARYL

Classes Attends:

When did you start dancing?

I started casually dancing when I was quite young around 6-8, copying moves I would see from Michael Jackson music videos and shows like America’s Best Dance Crew. Before taking choreographed classes, i was basically considered a freestyle dancer with my foundation centered around waves and tutting, it wasn’t until I started attending classes at 18 that I finally became comfortable incorporating footwork and the rest of my body into my dancing.
I basically started dancing because it was something that I really enjoyed and seemed to excel at, but the reason I continued dancing after all these years is because of the confidence I’m able to build from it, and the community I’m able to be a part of.

What is your favourite style of dance and why?

My favorite dance style comes from hip-hop influences, mainly tutting and grooves.

Who inspires you to dance and why?

As I’ve been dancing for a while I’ve got literally a dictionary of people that inspire me to dance, but from the top of my head I would say
Jabbawockeez; at the time there weren’t many Filipino faces in media I could relate to or look up to, but to see a crew with Filipinos, dominate the dance scene, win ABDC’s first season and prove that dance is a viable dream, meant a lot to me.
   – Brian Puspos; continually blows my mind with concepts and musicality whilst affirming that Asian men can dance sexy AF.
   – Anthony Lee & The Kinjaz; showing how far my dance style can go and continually raising the bar/ceiling so I have room to keep growing.

Well Done Daryl! 🙂
