What is your dance background?
As a kid I went to jazz and line dancing classes – I always loved making up routines with friends and the buzz around annual shows. At university I dabbled in a variety of other styles including tap, street and swing – I wasn’t much good at any of them but had so much fun nonetheless! A few years ago I started attending adult ballet classes in Leeds – at the same time I started Pilates classes, and found they went really well together! I’ve never been very sporty so have always found ways to make dance a part of keeping fit (it’s so much more fun than the gym!). That’s why a couple of years ago I decided to pursue a secondary career in teaching exercise to music classes – it felt like the perfect way to get my dance fix and keep fit at the same time.
What is your favourite style and why?
If you weren’t a fitness instructor what would you be?
My main career has been working in the charity sector, which I love and find so rewarding. I currently work at a national advice charity in data management – a long way from the fitness/dance world, but I love having the contrast of the two! In my spare time I’m usually watching movie musicals, attempting sewing projects and baking banana bread.
