It’s been a very busy few months for our DSL Jazz Performance Group, who have been performing at lots of different events since the start of the year. We thought it was worth a blog post to show you what they have been up to and what you could be involved in!
Our Jazz Performance Group was formed back in September 2017, with some of the ladies in the group being there from day one, one of them being the lovely Fabiana, who had the group perform at her birthday party at the start of the year. They performed a routine to Feeling Good, by one of Fabiana’s favourite bands, Muse. Check out the photos from this performance below, and click here to watch a Vlog from the day by Zoe, the performance group teacher and choreographer. Apart from some of the group showing up and rehearsing at the wrong party, they had a great night performing and celebrating!
In April we were lucky enough to have the opportunity of performing at the Northern School Of Contemporary Dance Community Platform for the second year in a row. This year we performed a fun routine to a mash up of the original Can Can and Because We Can from Moulin Rouge. Check out this amazing video filmed by NSCD of their performance!
We were then invited to perform at Adel Grange Care Home, which was a lovely day enjoyed by the group, the residents and the staff. The group performed a few of the routines that they had been working on over the past year, including a mix of musical theatre and pop hits!
This year for our 10th Anniversary we have been fundraising for St Gemma’s Hospice, by holding bake sales, competitions, merchandise sales and of course our Celebration of Dance Show taking place in October. As well as fundraising the Jazz Group have also performed at a few of their summer events taking place over the last couple of months. In July they performed at their Summer Fête at their headquarters in Moortown and earlier this month in August they performed at the Big Family Fun Day and Classic Car Show! Both events were a great success that we loved being a part of, especially raising money for such a great cause!
Another amazing event we were fortunate to be a part of was Tesco’s Dance Beats! Dance Beats is a fundraising campaign launched by Tesco, supporting Cancer Research UK, The British Heart Foundation and Diabetes UK. The campaign had the support of celebrities including Aston Merrygold, Oti Mabuse and Kimberley Wyatt. There were lots of things happening all over the country including a World Record Attempt at Wembley Stadium, as well as lots of smaller events at local Tesco stores, which is where we played our part. Our Jazz Performance Group performed a few of their routines at Tesco in Seacroft, surrounded by shoppers! This was another fantastic event to be a part of and I’m sure we made their shopping experience very exciting! You can find out more information on Tesco Dance Beats by clicking here.
