OUR INSPIRATIONAL STUDENT OF THE MONTH FOR MAY IS LUCY!

LUCY

Classes Attends:

When did you start dancing?

I started dance classes in January this year with DSL! I always wanted to dance when I was younger and was a huge theatre kid. I did the odd dance classes at school, and fumbled around in the back row of any production put on at high school. I also religiously watched Hairspray almost every night through primary school and copied the dances in my room, but that was the extent of my dancing knowledge until the start of this year! I was always very nervous about taking classes at a studio as an adult with no prior experience because I was scared of being really behind skill-wise, or being in a class with people my age who have been dancing together since they were small. But I ran out of excuses this year and just went for it. DSL has been such a welcoming and friendly studio. I have never felt silly or embarrassed in class, and everybody I have met has been immediately supportive and cheers others on.

What is your favourite style of dance and why?

This is such a hard question because I tried a few different styles at once to see what I liked – and I’ve loved them all! I have found tap the most challenging style so I look forward to my Tuesday classes to keep pushing myself. But I think that musical theatre has got to take the top spot. It’s so energetic and I’ve met such lovely people on the mash-up courses – and it’s a great excuse to listen to all my favourite songs. I can throw myself into the dancing and have fun, and live out my theatre kid dreams.

Who inspires you to dance and why?

Anybody who has the confidence to put themselves out there and try something new just because they want to, not to be the best at anything. (Also, I’m always very inspired by the dancers who have the confidence to go straight to the front of the class)

Well Done Lucy! 🙂
